Tyson Creates MBA Scholarship Fund in Honor of Dr. Frank W. Hale, Jr.
Gift assists underrepresented student groups pursing an MBA at Fisher College of Business
Jesse J. Tyson of Coral Gables, FL has made a gift of $100,000 to establish the Jesse J. Tyson MBA Scholarship Fund at Fisher College of Business. The scholarship was created in honor of Dr. Frank W. Hale, Jr., former vice provost and professor emeritus from 1971-1988, who engineered many new initiatives at The Ohio State University in support of minority students, including the undergraduate Minority Scholars Program.
Tyson, who earned his MBA from Fisher in 1976, has been employed by ExxonMobil for more than 30 years, and currently serves as President and Sales Director of ExxonMobil Inter-America Inc. Tyson is responsible for ExxonMobil's Fuels marketing retail business in the Caribbean, Central America, Andean region, and South America.
Dr. Hale was instrumental in bringing Tyson to Ohio State to pursue a graduate degree in business. "Dr. Hale was a tremendous man who made a difference in the lives of many minority students, including me. Creating a scholarship fund to honor his work and legacy was just one way I could give back to the college and the university."
The distribution from the scholarship fund will be used to support scholarships to MBA students enrolled at Fisher College of Business, in furtherance of the University's diversity mission, with particular attention to underrepresented groups.
Tyson is the recipient of the Fisher College of Business 2007 International Service Award for outstanding performance in international business, is a member of the Dean's Advisory Council and has made a number of trips to campus to speak with students both in and out of the classroom.
